Skyrim LE -vs- Skyrim SE,AE,...
Schaken replied to target1213's topic in Skyrim Legendary Edition: General
The difference is the memory (Ram) in LE vs SE. In LE it is limited to only 8 or 16 gb of ram. when you start adding mods, this ram fills up fast and when it does, you will get a CTD because its memory was overwhelmed. considering very few computers for gaming have 16 or less ram, this is quite the limitation, plus back when I had LE, I would hit maybe 100 mods and start having this issue, especially if you use any texture overhauls to make the game look better. Now, SE vs AE. So AE is the current and still gets updates. yeah, this is annoying. I used to always say it is the mod authors making DLL mods that cause the entire dilemma, but since they messed with the ESL's, now all mods are an issue in AE, so I use 1.6.64 and I will never update from there. The difference in SE to AE is the C++ coding and how papyrus is now handled. Papyrus was handled by a real small compiler and reader and struggled to keep up in the past, so they updated the systems and now papyrus is handled at a speed almost matching regular C++ so everything has ess errors, less crashes, and faster response times. If I were to sum it all up, my problem with LE is that it is so limited and crash happy compared to the other two, while AE is now an issue with with any form of cross compatibility after 1.6.64, while SE is much slower with reading papyrus, which is why they made AE in general as the complaints were becoming a serious issue on the matter. I would argue the sweet spot is skyrim AE 1.6.64. There is a mod on nexus that connects to steam and allows you to download whichever version of skyrim you want as long as you own the game. This will help you with the updating issue. Lets say you wake up one day and your skyrim updated. no problem, just use the tool to restore and it wont bug you again until they update again. it gets annoying, but it is now a very easy fix at least. I hope this info helps, I tried to keep is as bias as possible. They all have their perks.- 20 replies

I don't think any molders here use LE. It's too outdated.- 20 replies

wow. that is the binary data in a text format, which means for some reason you have your default app for opening .7z files set to either text editor or your browser. I just tested the download before finishing this message to verify and the download went just fine. I suggest downloading 7zip if you do not already have it and open the properties of any .7Z file and check the default tool for the extension. make sure it is 7zip or at least something that can open a 7z file.

I am very excited to hear! I actually got my game going as well. I ended up reverting to 1.6.640. To me the extra space in a single ESL is just not worth it, I dont have an extreme amount of plugins, plus the feature is backported anyways so I feel like I lose nothing. Anyway, I am very pleased to see you modding again! That is a wonderful Christmas gift to the community, Thank you!
